Feis Lebowski Article

Feis Lebowski, one of the most charming fundraising events in Cork in recent years, is being held in The Beggarman on Saturday, it’s organiser Ruairi O’Hagan spoke with Ronan Leonard and gave The Evening Echo a little scoop…

Firstly he explained that as well as screenings of the Big Lebowski in The Beggarman’s 35 person capacity cinema upstairs, there will be various entertainment based on elements of the film “we’ll have a Nintendo Wii bowling competition where you can shout “mark it zero” to your hearts content and the Feis Lebowski bowling trophy is up for grabs. We’ll have trivia contests; a DJ playing music from the film (but definitely not the Eagles); White Russians and the fancy dress competition where we’re encouraging people to dress as characters from the film… my Walter costume will take some beating though!”

All money raised on the night will be given to a cause that Ruairi feels very strongly about, “Alisha Savage is a four year old Cork girl who has AT/RT, a very rare form of brain cancer. She’s currently in the states receiving treatment and all the money raised on the night will be going to her family to help provide for Alisha’s care. I don’t actually know the Savage family, I just heard about her story and it stuck with me ever since.”

Ruairi is pretty honest when he says he didn’t expect it be as succesful as it has proved to be, “it’s been great. I wasn’t expecting it to be so popular, I thought it would just be a night for my buddies and me. People are really intrigued by the idea. The big Lebowski has a big cult following so many people love the idea of an entire night dedicated to the film. It was Scott who encouraged me to go for two screenings, which sold out very quickly, so we’re now announcing a third screening at 6.30pm so it’s an Echo exclusive! We MAY get a few cancellations for the 8.30pm and 10.30pm shows, so check our facebook page regularly but even if you don’t get a ticket for the screening, come on up to The Beggarman for the Craic on the night!”

The inaugural Feis Lebowski will be held on Saturday 26 July at The Beggarman on Gilabbey Street. For further enquiries, or to donate to the cause got to http://www.FeisLebowski.com or Facebook.com/FeisLebowski
